CE Requirements

The National Board no longer uses the term “Category A Provider”. The correct term is “Approved Provider of Continuing Education under the NCBTMB”. The Board no longer recognizes the term “CEU” but has replaced that with “Contact Hour”.

If you are maintaining your license in Virginia or Maryland, you must obtain 25 contact hours of continuing education for every two year period. In Washington, D.C. it is 12 hours every year.

NCBTMB requires 48 hours of continuing education every four years in order for you to maintain national certification. This must include six hours in professional ethics, at least two of which must be in Standard V of the Standards of Practice.

AMTA and ABMP also require professional members to obtain continuing education. Other boards have different requirements. Check with the board in your particular state or country to make sure you will get the credit you are expecting.
